The Chosen by Chaim Potok
About Me:
I am an American-born writer who lived with my family in Neve Dekalim Gush Katif, Israel from 1992 until the highly disputed, tension-filled Israeli unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005. I loved my life and thrived in Gush Katif where I spent my childhood through teenage years.
Grains Of Sand: The Fall Of Neve Dekalim (Mazo Publishers, 2007) closely follows the life of an Israeli family living in Gush Katif, from the pre-Intifada days until Disengagement (Israeli unilateral withdrawal from Gaza).
As a Gush Katif resident and expellee, my historic novel provides a rare opportunity for the reader to look into the hearts and souls of the people who lived during these difficult times.
Travel beyond time and beyond location - into my Gush Katif
Gush Katif now exists only in the memories of its banished residents, and those memories mustn't be forgotten. Gush Katif no longer belongs only to those of us who lived there - it has become part of the legacy of the entire Jewish world.
Grains Of Sand: The Fall Of Neve Dekalim
is the story of blossoming communities that after thriving for thirty years were reduced to gray piles of rubble.
Shifra is an extraordinary author and person, a young woman who is surely wise far beyond her years. Her book, Grains of Sand: The Fall of Neve Dekalim, is an amazing tribute to her adored community of Gush Katif, which was built on the hopes, love and sincere dedication of its members. Shifra is a sensitive, insightful and spirited writer, whose words and story will remain with us forever. Shifra, we will always remember your Gush Katif.
